The town of Sitges is located 37 km to the south of Barcelona, and its beaches and streets retain the beauty that inspired a whole generation of catalan artists in the late 19th century. Figueres, the capital of the Alt Empordà, is located 136 km north of Barcelona. It boasts the surrealist Salvador Dalí’s Theatre-Museum where he was born and died. He was buried on the 25th of January 1989 in the crypt of his Theatre-Museum, where he spent the last five years of his life. Dalí decided in 1961 that the old ruined theatre would be his museum.
