MEDIEVAL MADRID

Our starting point will be the Cuesta de la Vega, where we can see the rests of what used to be one of the doors of the Arab walls of the XIth Century to the city. From there, we will continue walking towards the old ravine of San Pedro, today Calle de Segovia, and then down the street going past the Palacio de Uceda (palace), and entering the Barrio de la Morería (Moorish quarter of the city).Our tour will guide us through the enchanting streets of Madrid passing by churches and squares from this amazing period we will taste the Cava of San Miguel before we end our visit by Madrid oldest Christian Church Iglesia de San Nicolas.

MADRID OF THE HABSBURG EPOCH

To start our visit, we propose the Plaza de la Encarnación, where one of the most significant monuments of the XVII Century the “Monasterio de las monjas agustinas descalzas” de La Encarnación, monastery founded by Doña Margarita de Austria y Estiria, wife of King Phillip III. We start from the Glorieta de Atocha with its Fuente de la Alcachofa, fountain built by the architect Ventura Rodríguez. We will admire Banco España, the fountains of Neptun, Apolo and Cibeles finalizing this tour by the Puerto de Alcala the triumphal arch in memory to Carlos III reign.

MUSEO THYSSEN BORNEMISZA

We offer you the best journey through art, from the primitive Italians of the XIIIth Century, with Ducio de Buonisegna, up through Flemish Art of the XVth Century with Jan van Eyck; as well as paintings of the Venetian School of the XVth and XVIth Century with Ghirlandaio and Tiziano; German art represented by Hans Holbein, El Joven, Durero and Lucas Cranach; the famous Venetian “Vedute” of Canaletto. From American art we are taken to the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements, with French painters such as Monet, Degas, Renoir, Cezanne, Van Gogh and Gauguin. The museum also counts with one of the best German expressionism art collections, with works of Kirchner, Schmidt-Rottluff, Heckel and Pechstein, as well as Franz Marc and Kandinsky. Spanish works from the XXth Century are also present in the collection, painters such as: Picasso, Dalí, Miró and Juan Gris.

MUSEO REINA SOFIA

The third biggest art centre of Madrid is this museum. It is located in front of the Atocha railway station and in it we can find the most important contemporary art collection of Spain. Our guides will take you through all rooms of its permanent collection, starting with the painters of the Change of Century: Anglada-Camarasa, Nonell and Gutierrez Solana. Walking past the rooms dedicated to Juan Gris, we will look at the sculptures of Pablo Gargallo and Julio González. In this section of the museum, Picasso’s works the widely known “Guernica” and the “Mujer en Azul” are exhibited. Next we will have a look at several of Miró’s works, exhibited by artistic periods, and then Dalí’s paintings, in which we can distinguish interesting themes of all of his artistic periods.
